For this model from the Antique Bookbinding collection, they have incorporated a textured white design reminiscent of chalk, flint or limestone, adding a modern element to the finely crafted leather look. The timeless beauty of an antique leather journal is now introduced on this finely decorated faux leather cover. This Silex model, they were inspired by one of the folding and softest forms of leather. Since the late 16th century, Moroccan leather has been favored for luxury book bindings because of its strength and ability to showcase the gilding well. With a subtle foliage pattern on an intriguing white background, this design offers a minimalist interpretation of the classic style of antique bindings. When they began making Paperblanks notebooks, they found a fragment in William Shakespeare's handwriting and knew it would inspire them to make a notebook cover. They quickly added designs featuring the handwriting of Ernest Hemingway and Jane Austen and thus created a series that would become our Stamped Manuscript Collection. These early covers were minimalist designs with literary manuscripts written in black ink on beige paper. Eventually, their creative impulses began to take over, allowing them to play with the design by adding a gold border. Their art director decided to take a photo of a small fragment beautifully decorated with gold and create a full image of a Shakespeare manuscript and accent it with a burnt orange background. Of course, their curiosity didn't stop there! By removing the manuscript we immediately saw the possibilities for a design inspired by the classic leather bindings of the Renaissance. That's how their Antiquarian Binding collection was born. Today, they are free to play with the shape of the frame and the background color, so this initial beige and the black pattern continues to provide the backbone for two of their most popular collections.
