Its name derives from the fact that some parts of the building were covered in gold (oro) in former times. In 1927, it was transformed into a museum housing the Giorgio Franchetti art collection. From the pencils of our Venetian masters of art are born the original drawings of the pen, the lifeblood of the whole creative process. Symbols and centuries-old habits of Venice meet modern taste, and find expression in the Ducal pen. It is from the careful choice of symbols resulting from collective memory, and from their encounter with the present, that historical and modern design merge to give life to objects rich in history and personality.
