When I came back from my holidays spent in the Chauvet cave in Ardèche (the replica to be precise), I was inspired by this creation. 

The spectacle of the Chauvet cave is impressive, it is one of the oldest decorated caves in the world, dating back to the Aurignacian (about - 35 000 years AP). The beauty of the works and the techniques used are a great source of inspiration for me. Indeed, the works of the Aurignacian period testify to the mastery of very diverse techniques (preparation of the walls, engravings, digital and palm tracings (positive and negative hands), paintings, shading, research of perspective, etc.). 

To make this creation I first did a meditation through a mandala with the writings in circle as well as squares. Once this first step was completed, I dipped my hands in ink and then wrote the tribal word in the centre and then put my palm tracing (hands) on it. 

The symbolism of the hands is very interesting, they are the ones who create the world. It represents work, efficiency, invention, self-expression, they can be used to create as well as to destroy. In calligraphy hands are very important and I have a special relationship with them. Moreover the hands speak with an eloquent silence, and the sign language used by the hard of hearing person is the most modern achievement.

As a hard of hearing person and a calligrapher my hands are for me a strong and powerful symbol, just as prehistoric artists did on the Chauvet cave.
